Vela Plaža (Big Beach)

Vela Plaža (Big Beach)

Vela Plaža beach is a natural pebble beach, 1,800 metres long, and can accommodate several thousand bathers. It is especially suitable for children and non-swimmers. Since 1999 the European Blue Flag, which today is a trademark of Baška as proof of the high quality and standards, has been flying on Baška’s Vela beach. The Blue Flag was awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and it symbolises the preserved, safe and pleasant surroundings, the cleanliness of the sea and the coast plus the quality of equipment and organisation of the beach along with the developed management system of this area.
Pedalos, sailboards, sunshades, sun loungers and other beach goods necessary for a pleasant stay by the sea or available for hire.
It was, in fact, the beaches that stimulated tourism in Baška back in 1908 when the first bathing resort was officially opened on the island of Krk.
Today the purpose of the beach is the same, as in the previous century, however, now with the facilities that allow every visitor a safe and carefree time on it.
