Picokijada is a well known three-day festival that has been held since 1968 in the town of Đurđevac. Its almost forty events, with over 2.500 participants from entire region, visited by over 30.000 people, cherish cultural, historical herritage, traditional way of life and craftsmanship. The main event - Legend of Picok, is made by 300 enthusiasts, with great fire show, unique costumes and stage effects. It is the 16th century unique legend of the wise and brave people and their resourcefulness, and how they outwitted the great foe, who sieged the town in order to starve them, but they put the last rooster in the cannon and fired it at the Turkish camp, making him believe that they have plenty of food. While ending the siege, Ulama-beg cursed them to be called Picoki, Roosters.
